When people hear that the Prophet Muhammad salla allahu alayhi wassallam had many wives they conclude without much thought that the prophet was a sensuous man. However, a quick historical review of his marriages, proves otherwise.

When he was twenty-five years old he married for the first time. His wife, Khadijah, was fifteen years older than he. She remained the only wife of the prophet for the next twenty-five years, until she died (may Allah be pleased with her). Only after her death, did the Prophet Muhammad salla allahu alayhi wassallam marry other women. Now, it is obvious that if the prophet was after physical pleasure he did not have to wait until he was more than fifty years old to start marrying more wives. He lived in a society in which it was quite acceptable to have many wives. But the Prophet Muhammad salla allahu alayhi wassallam remained devoted to his only wife for twenty-five years. When she died, she was 65 years old.

His later marriages were for various reasons. Some marriages were with the view to help the women whose husbands had been killed while they were defending their faith. Others were with a view to cement relationships with devoted followers like Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him. Yet others were to build bridges with various tribes who were otherwise at war with the Muslims. When the Prophet Muhammad salla allahu alayhi wassallam became their relative through marriage, their hostilities calmed down and much bloodshed was averted.

The fact that he only married almost a dozen wives after Khadijah had died isn’t really a concrete proof that he was faithful. It could be that she has some control towards his decisions and actions. After all she was much older than him and it could be out of respect.Who knows. Please I don’t really mean to disrespect ,I’m just saying it isn’t a strong example at all.Why marry the women just to help them?Or even to cement relationships and even build bridges? Why not build bridges when Khadijah was still alive..?Why not let children from his trusted followers marry them instead…?

“The fact that he only married almost a dozen wives after Khadijah had died isn’t really a concrete proof that he was faithful.”

The same question, I can pose to you, do you have any evidence that he is unfaithful?

“It could be that she has some control towards his decisions and actions.”

Can you give any example where Khadijah had influence Muhammad in his decisions and actions?

Please be objective in lamenting your comments..

As a person who try to plant your doubt and disrespect, could you give any strong example where Khadijah influence Muhammad for her age and out of Muhammad’s respect.

“Why marry the women just to help them?Or even to cement relationships and even build bridges?”

This is the difference between Muhammad and other men. Can you pose any example that Muhammad married them other from any purpose?

Islam practically monogamous in the beginning until the revelation of an ayat that permits Muslims to marry up to 4 women at the same time. This was also due to the Arabs at that time who had more than 4 wives, thus, they are allowed to have only 4 wives.

For your infomation, they could if they wanted and no objection from the prophet or his companions if they want to marry anybody at that time.

For instance, Abd rahman Az Zubair is reported to marry a widow and the prophet also encouraged the companions to take any widow of the martyred companions as their wive.

    So, no problem on that.

    Assalam-o-Alaikum!
I want to draw the attention of brother Deeroy that “What place does pleasure have in the life of a man who has rejected his youth with the old age Khadija. Why did Holy prophet marry such an old lady? Hazrat Khadija was a noble lady she proposed Holy Prophet to marry her.Holy Prophet spent his youth with such an old lady, she died at the age of 65.

When Khadija died Prophet wanted to remarry, the beauty was not the criterion by which he selected his wife. His main consideration was to strengthen his ties with those men who had dedicated their lives to the message of ISLAM.He chose Aisha the daughter Abu BAkar inspite of her tender age,he married with Hafsa the daughter of Omar inspite of her lack of beauty. He also married SAWDAH,she was a woman who had given up the idea of marriage because of her old age,but the Holy Prophet fulfilled her hope by marrying her.Life with these was not expected to be full of fun and pleasure.
